Dorothy M. Lena Memorial Fund

Dot was born in Waterbury, CT on Dec. 29, 1923 to Walter and Madeline (Burke) Lena. She moved with her family to Stoneham, MA in 1930. She graduated from Stoneham High School in 1940. In 1943, she graduated from Mass. Memorial School of Nursing. After working at Mass. Memorial for a few years, Dot went to Boston City Hospital. There she became a nurse anesthetist and later ran the school so other nurses could follow in the field.

Dot was a long time resident of Wakefield, and spent many years there before and after her retirement. She was the sister of Betty Carney and her husband, Dave, and aunt of David “Chuck” Carney and Lisa Urizandi. Dot was an active member of the National & Massachusetts Nurse Anesthetists Associations.
