The Wakefield Chamber of Commerce incorporated in 1934 to promote the business interests and the civic, economic, and social welfare of the people of Wakefield.
When John McCarthy and Bill Lee were thinking of starting a scholarship fund for Wakefield students, they enlisted the backing of the Chamber of Commerce, an organization they were also involved in. In 1960, the Chamber backed the original fundraiser, a musical called “Make if for two”, which raised $3,800 dollars for scholarships. In the 40th anniversary year of TSF, the Chamber voted to establish their own permanent fund.
In 2014, the Chamber expanded to include Lynnfield, becoming the Wakefield Lynnfield Chamber of Commerce. This scholarship fund was renamed in 2015 in order to reflect the Chamber’s new name.
Every year, the Chamber answers thousands of questions about Wakefield and Lynnfield organizations, institutions, businesses, lakes and trails, and cultural activities. It offers members business listings on their website, networking opportunities at their meetings and events, referral services, educational seminars, and the opportunity to participate in a wide range of chamber-sponsored community events and activities.
