Sjostrom Fund

The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls is a service-oriented organization for girls between the ages of 11 and 21. In 1988, Wakefield Rainbow Assembly #43 celebrated its 50th anniversary serving the youth of the town. Bernice Sjostrom was an educator who provided more than 40 years of service to Wakefield Rainbow and the Grand Assembly of Massachusetts Rainbow. She watched 3 generations of her family join Wakefield Rainbow and lead the assembly. Mother Sjostrom was truly dedicated to Rainbow and its teachings. Her husband, Mr. Loren Sjostrom, and her family wanted to honor Mother Sjostrom by establishing a Sjostrom Scholarship Fund within the Wakefield Rainbow Fund. In honor of Mother Sjostrom’s retirement from Rainbow service, her fund received many donations and became a permanent fund. Scholarships from her fund have been presented to deserving young women entering the education profession.
