Jonathan G. Blaser Memorial Scholarship

Jonathan was a lifelong resident of Wakefield. He was born in Boston the oldest son of Robert and Jean Blaser. Jon spent his first 3 years living on the Westside before moving to Greenwood.

He attended Greenwood School and Galvin Middle School in Wakefield. Jonathan was fortunate to receive a scholarship to Malden Catholic and graduated 4th in his class in 2000.

Jonathan was a member of Cub Scout Pack 722 in Greenwood.

Jonathan was passionate about sports throughout his life, as both a participant and fan. He played youth soccer, belonged to the Giants Little League team, the Mets Babe Ruth team in Wakefield, and umpired for several of Wakefield’s youth baseball leagues. He loved being a part of local sports, and the baseball fields of Wakefield held a special place for Jon. Jonathan played football and baseball for 4 years while at Malden Catholic. He was a passionate and loyal Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Bruins fan.

Jonathan’s other great passion was music. He took piano lessons starting in 3rd grade and continued through his senior year of high school. He had his final recital just before graduating with high honors from Malden Catholic. More importantly, music held a special place for him. The lyrics and music of the Beatles, Guns N’ Roses, and AC/DC (among many others) encapsulated his philosophy towards life and were a source of great comfort to him.

Jonathan attended and graduated from Northeastern University with a BA in Business Administration. He was completing a Masters in Education at The University of Massachusetts in Boston and had recently committed his life’s vocation to helping young people with addiction problems before his unexpected passing in February 2011. Jonathan was a born teacher and no matter where he was or what the circumstances he was helping and teaching others. Jonathan was also a member of First Parish Congregational Church. Good friends, Malden Catholic, baseball and faith were all very special to him.

Jonathan is fondly remembered and greatly missed by his mother Jean, father Bob and brothers David and Adam, his many loving relatives and wonderful friends.
