Janis Collamore was a teacher of special needs students for 40 years. She began her career with the Wakefield Public Schools. Her specialized teaching brought her to Proctor, Vermont where she taught in the town’s Junior and Senior schools. Later in her career, she taught at Methuen High School and Landmark School in Beverly. Applying her passion and experience in special education, she was a co-founder of the Northeast Consortium Embark Program at Salem State University. This program continues to make a profound impact on its students by providing academic, community and vocational opportunities.
Janis was multi-talented: she was a skilled carpenter, an avid boater and an outstanding teacher. She cared deeply for everyone she knew – family, friends and students. She was a role model and a true inspiration to all who knew her.
