9-11 Fund

Shortly after horrific terrorist acts of September 11, 2001 the Crystal Community Club issued a challenge to all other town clubs, associations and businesses to join them in creating a scholarship fund as a tribute to our own unsung heroes. The 9-11 Fund was especially created to honor the memory of the many Americans who were killed during the terrorist attacks in New York, Pennsylvania and Washington, DC. More specifically, this fund honors the firefighters and police officers that valiantly assisted during the tragedies, many of whom lost their lives while doing so. Wakefield’s business and civic groups responded generously and the fund became permanent in January of 2002 allowing scholarships to be issued from the fund into perpetuity. The scholarship is based on financial need and has a preference for the children of firefighters and police officers who reside in Wakefield.
