Spir-it, Inc. Fund

In 1934, while leisurely enjoying refreshment at a Boston hotel, a chemical engineer was unable to reach the olive at the bottom of his glass. He envisioned a pointed spear to retrieve it. Inspired, he added a space for the hotel’s name and patented the first swizzle stick. That was the beginning of Spir-it, Inc. For many years prior to 1988, Spir-It, Inc. made donations to TSF, assuring that awards were made in the company name every year. Then, in 1988, the company established this permanent fund and, as such, it is the sixth permanent Corporate Fund to be part of the TSF family. For many years, Spir-It graciously donated the telephones at their Foundry Street office for use during the Annual TSF Phonathon. Following a merger, the Spir-It Company closed its Lake Street doors in 2000.
