This fund was established upon Joe Rich’s death from cancer in September 1996. A member of the WHS Class of 1959, Joe was a longtime supporter of TSF in his quiet but effective way. An avid bowler, Joe worked in West Newton as a chauffeur, medical aide, and a caretaker for John Campbell until Mr. Campbell’s death in 1978, and he continued to care for his widow Doris Campbell who was 97 at the time of Joe’s death. In June 1990, Mr. Rich was the subject of WBZ “Evening Magazine” profile entitled “Driving Miss Doris” as well as a Boston Globe article on the same subject. The fund has a preference for students who have participated in performing arts (drama, dance or music) and/or who will pursue them in college and beyond.
