Bill Lee, known as “Mr. Wakefield”, was a local attorney and one of the co-founders of The Scholarship Foundation of Wakefield. He was instrumental in the growth and success of this chapter. The Fund was given in his honor in 1971, when he was named the West Side Social Club “Citizen of the Year”. Bill Lee served his town in many public capacities, from School Committee Chairman to Town Moderator. He loved Wakefield and showed it in many ways, supporting many organizations with his leadership. He served in the Pacific during World War II. Mr. Lee died in October 1988. In 1990, the community honored Bill and his contributions to the town when Wakefield’s Town Hall was officially renamed the William J. Lee Memorial Town Hall.
