Dana Leach lived in Wakefield all his life, graduating from Wakefield High School in 1966. He played trumpet in the High School Band and was active in Melrose’s Trinity Episcopal Church and in DeMolay. Following graduation, he entered the U.S. Navy serving in Antarctica supporting the scientific expedition “Operation Deep Freeze”. Shortly after his Naval discharge, in December 1972, he was sailing with his uncle on the “Silver Dawn” from Portsmouth, NH to Bermuda when both were lost at sea. In 1974 the wreck was found. This fund was established by his family 19 years after his disappearance.
