This fund was established in November 2010. Peter Hubbard, “the West Side Historian”, long-time youth hockey booster, oil man, cribbage master, dedicated 68-year WSSC member and patriarch of a well-known local family, died on his 94th birthday. Bob Burgess of the Wakefield Item writes: The community lost a life-long resident who remembered things big and small because he helped do them, like the construction of a skating rink, leading Little League and Pony League baseball, serving on all his beloved social club’s communities at one time or another, putting on WSSC’s annual blowout clambake, overseeing Fourth of July extravaganzas and much, much more. A past WWSC president himself, Peter and his late wife Edna gave the West Side three other past presidents: Sons Bob, Tom and Jake. A life member of the club, Peter had been its financial secretary for the past 15 years. Educated in Wakefield public schools, he was the co-owner with his brother J. Leo of Hubbard Brothers Inc. He retired from the oil business in 1979. His wife, Edna Hubbard, a life-long resident of Wakefield, died Dec 7, 2001. She attended the Wakefield schools. Peter and Edna were longtime members of Saint Joseph Church.
