Skip & Jane became permanent residents of Wakefield in 1963. Together they raised two daughters, Leslie A. (Haley)Kaine and Lauri J. (Haley)Brennan, and three sons, Paul F., David W. and Scott M. Haley, who have collectively given them eight grandchildren.
Skip was a veteran of the Korean War. He worked for Local 25 Teamsters until he was forced to retire due to heart problems in 1976. In 1967 he became involved with the Knights of Columbus, Wakefield Council 104 and served as Grand Knight, 1973-74. He was president of the Knights of Columbus building during 1976 and served as Financial Secretary from 1978 until 2008 as well as Bar Manager and Rental Manager from 1984-2008. Skip was also the treasurer for the Wakefield Council of Clubs from 1969-2008 and was a member of the Retired Men’s Club.
Skip was very civic minded and charitable. If he knew of someone in need of anything such as hearing devices, wheelchairs, chair lifts, child’s high-chair, van or any medical requirement, he went straight to the Knights of Columbus Charity Fund and requested help. He also enjoyed delivering baskets to those in need at the holidays with the Council of Clubs.
He was an avid cribbage and card player, as well as a very passionate sports fan for the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics, and Bruins. He especially enjoyed watching his grandsons and granddaughter play for the Wakefield Warriors and the Reading Rockets.
While Skip was working for the Teamsters, Jane was home raising the five children. During this time she was involved in St. Joseph’s Mothers Club as a Membership Chairman, she was a Cub Scout Den Mother, she was a Treasurer for Pop Warner Football and she was a Pop Warner cheerleading team mother. In 1986, Jane became a full-time employee in the Tax Collector’s Office at the Wakefield Town Hall. Their biggest highlights were taking family vacations and watching their children and grandchildren’s accomplishments.
