Dwyer Memorial Scholarship Fund

In 1947 the Dwyer family came to Wakefield and became actively involved in the community. Mr. Dwyer’s widow Kitty and his three daughters established this fund. The fund honors both Kitty and Cony Dwyer, each of whom recognized the importance of a college education. While neither Mr. nor Mrs. Dwyer received higher education, they saw to it that their three daughters all did. The family hopes that this fund will assist others to achieve their educational goals. Kitty Dwyer died of cancer in 1975 and Cony Dwyer was killed in 1989 while crossing the street with his 12-year-old grandson. The fund has a preference for a female student planning a career in education.
