The Wakefield Memorial High School METCO Graduate Fund was started with seed money donated in memory of Mary Adele Taylor, a retired special education teacher, and supporter of the METCO program in Wakefield. Mary Adele Taylor, in whose name these funds are given, was not interested in having a fund in her name. She was in support of the idea of allowing scholarships for Wakefield High School METCO graduates even though they do not live in Wakefield. Ms. Taylor, a longtime resident of Wakefield, was born in Derby, CT. She was a graduate of Medford High School, the University of Massachusetts and Lesley University. She was a special education teacher in the Stoneham Public Schools for over 20 years. She was an active member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Wakefield from the early 1970’s until her passing on December 24, 2020.
