Matthew Sardella, WHS Class of 1986, was a journalism student at Salem State College at the time of his death. He was known in Wakefield as an outstanding goalie for the WHS hockey team from 1984-1986, but he was active in baseball and football as well. He also served as his class Vice President, was a member of DECA, and volunteered for various fundraising efforts including the TSF Phonathon. He did all of these things while battling daily with the asthma that would eventually claim his life. In 2010, Christopher J. Sardella’s name was added to the fund after the curious two year old drowned in an accident. This fund has a preference for a student who participated in sports.
