Beloved former principal of the Franklin and Woodville Schools, Mr. Palumbo died of cardiac arrest just before Christmas 1979 at age 46. A graduate of Boston University, he served with the US Army, and earned his Master’s Degree from Boston State College. He began in the Wakefield school system as a teacher at the Hurd and Montrose Schools, rising to principal of the Dolbeare and Montrose schools in 1970. Mrs. Palumbo had been a teacher in Wakefield schools before raising her family, and returned to teaching later. She was teaching at the Walton School at the time of her death from cancer in September 1992. Their daughter Kathryn is currently a Wakefield elementary school teacher.
