George “Mike” Angelo, Jr., 65, a lifelong Wakefield resident, died peacefully on December, 24, 2013, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Winchester on September 13, 1948 he was the son of the late George M. and Yolanda (Orsini) Angelo. Mike was a staple in the Wakefield community, as he was an employee of the Wakefield Public School system for almost 40 years. He also served as a photographer for the Wakefield & Melrose Daily Item, the Wakefield Patch, and was a contributor to the Wakefield High School yearbooks, capturing many candid moments that were treasured by all. He was instrumental in creating the WHS girls hockey program and many other coaching assignments such as Babe Ruth baseball, youth soccer, and girls softball. A true passion of Mike’s was refereeing many local hockey leagues, even serving as past president. His love of community was strongly shown through his pictures. He was the number one fan of all Wakefield athletics and town-wide events.
