Metalcrafters, Inc. Fund

In 1943 the late J. George Tucker founded Metalcrafters, Inc. in Wakefield. Originally a metal stamping shop, the company entered the precision sheet metal business in 1959. Since that time, Metalcrafters, Inc. has been considered one of the principal sheet metal shops in New England. It is no accident that Metalcrafters, Inc. has long been a supporter of the The Scholarship Foundation of Wakefield. J. George Tucker was one of the founders of the organization and he served as its treasurer for sixteen years.

Metalcrafters, Inc. was established in 1943 in a small, dimly lit shop in Wakefield, Massachusetts. To serve the growing economy and booming textile industry in the area at the time, the company’s initial endeavors included producing items such as doll carriages, exercise equipment, and fabric cutting equipment.

Along with the growing economy came the explosion of the high-tech industry in the Massachusetts area, and Metalcrafters found themselves in a time of transition. In the 1960s, Metalcrafters began to work with some of the area’s largest companies providing them with high-volume precision stampings.

In the early ’70s, recognizing a change in fabrication technology and industry needs, Metalcrafters began to focus more on precision sheet metal fabrication.

The company quickly gained recognition as a world-class precision metal fabricator providing quality products to many customers throughout the world. This synergy propelled Metalcrafters through the 1980’s and into the 1990’s.

As manufacturing demands grew throughout the 1990’s, Metalcrafters was outgrowing its home of the last 50 years. The third generation of the Tucker family was in full swing preparing a long-term sustaining plan for future growth and prosperity.

In 1999, Metalcrafters evolved significantly, moving to its newly built 130,000 square-foot manufacturing facility, investing heavily in automation and robotics to position itself for future capacity and growth.

In 2000, Metalcrafters received its certification to ISO 9001, and adopted the philosophy of “Customer Satisfaction through Total Quality Management.” This philosophy has driven continued growth and expanded our capabilities over the years.
