Born on January 11, 1966, Maureen Donahue Fallon, the youngest child of John and Maryellen Donahue’s seven children, was a beautiful, amazing woman who meant so much to so many people. She was caring, selfless, out-going, fun and humble with an inspiring hunger for life and compassion for others. Maureen attended the St. Joseph School and graduated from Wakefield High School with the class of 1984. After high school, she attended Umass Lowell and earned a nursing degree. Later, she obtained her Master’s degree at Northeastern University and became a Nurse Practitioner.
A beloved daughter, cherished sister, admired aunt, devoted friend, soul mate, doting mother, caring colleague and contributing member of her community; it could be said that a light flowed from “Moe” and touched everyone who met her. An adventurer and humanitarian at heart, Maureen worked as a nurse in Venezuela with a Christian relief organization, as well as in a Boston-based inner city clinic, later with her husband Dan she helped native peoples in an underserved part of Alaska with Jesuit Volunteer Corps. She and her husband settled in Maine where they adopted their darling daughter Galina. In Maine, Maureen worked as a Nurse Practitioner for L.L. Bean. The “Fallon Family Funny Farm” in Durham, Maine, is where the Fallon family built their life. There they loved and enjoyed one another, tending to their animals and their gardens.
Though Maureen was faced with numerous threatening health challenges, she always chose life and love over fear and death. She had the remarkable ability to trust that faith and hope would overcome seemingly insurmountable odds and though her life was cut short, she lived more in her forty years than most people do in a lifetime. Maureen died on December 12, 2006. She left a legacy that will not soon be forgotten and her spirit will continue to inspire those who knew her and those who loved her. This fund has a preference for a student studying nursing.
