Mary Therese and Carney D. Daniels Fund

Carney Daniels was a retired public defender. He graduated from Wakefield High School in 1953 and attended Boston College and New England School of Law. He served as a public defender for 34 years until retiring in 1999 out of the Lowell Courthouse. He was recognized and received awards for his service, integrity and dedication to his job. He was honored as Lawyer of the Year in 1999. Mr. Daniels also served the town of Wakefield in his years on the Housing Authority Board. He was also involved with the Knights of Columbus, the 4th of July Parade Committee and the West Side Social Club. He coached Little League, youth hockey and girls softball. His family established this fund as a tribute to his memory.

A long-time resident of Wakefield, Mary Therese Daniels served as the gubernatorial appointee to the Wakefield Housing Authority, having been appointed by former Governor Deval Patrick on July 9, 2008. Mrs. Daniels was a member of the Wakefield Garden Club, a director of the Hartshorne House Association, a volunteer with the Salvation Army Christmas Program, a member of the Y.M.C.A. Ladies Auxiliary, a volunteer with the Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry and a member of the Wakefield Town Democratic Committee for over 40 years, serving as its vice-chair for 20 years. She became a Life Member of that committee in 2016. Mrs. Daniels treasured the time she spent with her family, she was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling.
