Brigadier General John J. Bogan came up through the ranks during World War II without the benefit of a college education, but he had a keen respect for the value of education. He and his wife, Esther, moved to Wakefield after their marriage in 1940. General Bogan started this fund in 1977 to honor his wife, who died in 1969. All three of the couple’s children earned college degrees, including one who earned a Ph.D. in chemistry. General Bogan died in 1984.
