Gerrish/Almeida/Rindone Family Scholarship Fund

The Gerrish Family Scholarship Fund was established in 2002 upon the death of K. Stanley Gerrish. Stan lived in Wakefield for most of his life. He was born in Somerville, to the late Kenneth & Gertrude Gerrish. He graduated from WHS in the Class of 1958. As a teenager, he worked at Pleasure Island Amusement Park in Wakefield and was a volunteer firefighter for the Town of Wakefield in the early 60’s. He was married to Joie M. (Rindone) Gerrish and father of Christine Templeton and Kimberly Bavaro, stepfather of Michael Almeida and Marc Almeida. He also had two grandchildren. Stan was the owner and operator of Stan And Resources Mini Repairs on Tuttle Street in Wakefield. He was also Director of Facilities at New England Rehabilitation Hospital in Woburn for 20 years. He was a member of the Golden Rule Lodge AF & AM and Past Master Councilor of Demolay. He was a member of the Greenwood Union Church, a drummer in the Linn Village Drum Band. He and his wife Joie were members of the Early Onset Patient/Care-Giver Support Group of the Alzheimer’s Association in Cambridge. He was a volunteer at the Upper Room Family Resource Center in Derry, NH. He was active with organizing the Wakefield 350th celebration. His hobby was model railroading and he was interested in preserving the environment. His favorite expression was “fix it, don’t throw it away”. He always dreamed of having a scholarship fund in the family name. He was especially interested in helping students who were pursuing the environmental sciences or studying medicine in order to prepare for a career in research and development.
