Charles Kirk served as varsity ice hockey head coach at Wakefield High School for an unprecedented 32 years. He served in the Marine Corps during World War I. Among many other well-deserved awards, he received the coveted “Citizen of the Year” Award from the West Side Social Club in 1957. The prestigious Charles T. Kirk Trophy, named in honor of the “father of Wakefield hockey”, is annually presented at the high school ice hockey banquet. When Charles’ widow Grace died in 1977, her name was added to this fund that has a preference for a student who played ice hockey.
