Ron Wood was assistant football coach for the Wakefield Warriors football team for seven years. He died at the age of 36 after a long battle with colon cancer. He was a graduate of Salem State College with a degree in physical education and a Master’s degree from Cambridge College. Prior to his tenure in Wakefield he had been assistant coach for Stoneham High School. Ron was named by the Mass. Coaches Association as Assistant Coach of the Year. Ron was a well-loved and respected member of the coaching team. Many of his players and fellow coaches describe the bravery, determination and sheer will Ron displayed in his fight to beat cancer as awe inspiring. He never complained and held a positive attitude until the end.
