William J. and Judith A. Wallace Scholarship Fund

Bill Wallace was born in Wakefield on Jan. 28, 1945. He grew up with his sister, Susan and his brother Jim. He attended school in Wakefield and graduated from Wakefield High in 1963, where he was active in basketball and tennis. He received a scholarship to continue his education at Northeastern University. Bill did his work/study at the Wakefield Gas and Light Department. And following his graduation, he became a full-time employee. Eventually, he rose to the role of General Manager of the Light Department in 1976 and remained in that position until his retirement in 2007.

Bill volunteered countless hours coaching and supporting youth sports in Wakefield. He coached basketball, and soccer, and hundreds of local children played baseball for the Wakefield Little League American League Angels during his 30 years as that team’s coach. He was also very committed to many community organizations including the Knights of Columbus, the Elks, and the Wakefield Rotary Club.

Judith Wallace was born in Wakefield on Dec.18, 1945. She grew up with a sister, Mary Ellen and a brother Ted. Her father was in the Army and in 1950 was assigned to the Rhine-Main Air Force Base in Frankfurt, Germany. Along with her family, she spent 3 years in Germany and returned to Wakefield to attend fourth grade. She completed elementary school at St. Joseph’s

School and then went on to high school at Nazareth Academy. After graduation, she attended Salem State College. Judy was a teacher in the Wakefield school system for 28 years.

In a fitting beginning for this Wakefield couple, Bill and Judy first met at the Veteran’s Field tennis courts. Bill and Judy had 4 children: Wendy, who teaches at the Galvin Middle School, Billy, who teaches Biology at Lynnfield High School, Amy, who is a nurse in Maui, Hawaii, and Shawn, who teaches Math at Newton North High School.
