The Wakefield Arts & Crafts Society was formed in 1915 as the Wakefield Handicraft Society. In 1922 the name was changed to the Arts & Crafts Society. Its purpose is to cultivate an interest in arts and crafts and to promote and improve work in all branches of handicrafts. For many years this community-oriented group has given awards to high school graduates pursuing fine arts, vocational or industrial arts. Each year, members of the Society decorate the “Arts & Crafts” room of the Hartshorne House each December for the enjoyment of the public at the Hartshorne House Tea.
