Born and raised in Wakefield, Rick Turner was a devoted member of the West Side Social Club for many years. Educated through the Wakefield school system, Berwick Academy, and Central Connecticut College, Rick followed in his father’s footsteps, building his career at the Wakefield Municipal Gas and Light Department. During this time, he married and raised four children who also began their education in Wakefield. His children went on to complete their secondary education and follow career paths of their own.
Rick, also known as Ricky to his friends, was often there to lend a helping hand and make people laugh. His passion for cooking led him to spend time creating culinary delights for his family, his friends, and of course, the West Side Social Club’s many events. Rick was also devoted to his favorite holiday, the Fourth of July, and the activities that were created and sponsored by the WSSC. His continued commitment led him to fulfill his goal to become president of the West Side in 2013. On May 26th of that year, Rick’s passing was an unexpected moment which prompted the WSSC to create a purpose to honor his memory. We therefore would like to establish an educational scholarship to remember Rick and to dedicate his memory to those in the community of Wakefield who would like to further their education and create their own story.
