Mogan Family Fund

Arthur was born in Waltham, Mass. to Charles and Genevieve Mogan, on June 4, 1919. He attended St. Mary’s schools where he was captain of the high school hockey team. Skating was the one thing he really missed after he was wounded during World War II. He had a rink built in his backyard for his children and he was determined to try once more, but he just couldn’t do it. It was a great disappointment.

After his marriage to Ruth McDonough, he was employed by the Internal Revenue as an agent. He enjoyed his work very much.

Most of all, he loved and cherished his seven children, fifteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus for almost 50 years. He was often called upon to be master of ceremonies for many affairs. He went into the hospital to have a hip replacement, which was a success, but his heart gave out in the recovery room. This scholarship has a stated preference to be awarded to the son or daughter of a disabled veteran.

Ruth Mogan, was raised in Malden and was a graduate of Girls Catholic High School and went on to attend secretarial school. She moved to Wakefield in 1947 and was a parishioner at St. Joseph Church where she also belonged to the Ladies Sodality. When she died in September 2019, at the age of 97, she was survived by four of her seven children, 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
