As the son of immigrant parents who spoke limited English, Anthony Minichiello dug ditches in a depression economy to save money to attend Northeastern University School of Engineering from which he graduated in 1934. A 38-year resident of Wakefield, Anthony gave 40 years of service to the United States government, working with the US Army Corps of Engineers, the US Air Force, NASA and the US Department of Transportation. He was a co-founder of R. C. Pressey Engineering, Inc. of Lynn, MA. Mr. Minichiello was very active in local affairs, including the Wakefield Water and Sewer Commission and the Finance Committee. He served as an elected member of the Board of Public Works and he also headed the Wakefield Municipal Light Commission. His wife Nancy was a traditional homemaker and mother. She was a wonderful cook & seamstress and served as the family anchor during Anthony’s frequent travels. As someone who left school early due to the death of her own father to help support her family, Nancy saw education as both a way to broaden your perspective on life and to provide you with the tools to support yourself and your family. From Anthony & Nancy, the message to their children was that education was not an “if” but a “when” and they sacrificed to provide it. The fund has a preference for a student pursuing a career in engineering. The Minichiello children, including daughter Nancy, a former member of the TSF Board of Directors, hope to give someone else pursuing an education that little breather of support that Anthony & Nancy Irene would so much have enjoyed themselves.
