Howard E. & Elaine M. Melanson Fund

This fund was established at the time of “Howie” Melanson’s death in June 1998. Owner of the successful and popular Mel & Sons Oil Sales, he was a strong supporter of The Scholarship Foundation of Wakefield for many years. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish, the Wakefield Knights of Columbus and the Wakefield Lodge of Elks. A lifelong resident of Wakefield and a member of the Wakefield High School Class of 1953, Mr. Melanson was the proud father of eight children. Elaine Melanson, died April 22, 2009. She was a lifelong resident of Wakefield and a graduate of Wakefield High School, Class of 1953. She later worked for TWA. At the time of her passing she was survived by 21 grandchildren. Because Howie was an ice hockey lover, the Melanson family has requested that this fund have a preference for an eligible student who either played youth or high school ice hockey or who has continued to play hockey after high school.
