Staff Sgt. Joseph Bellavia Fund

Staff Sgt. Joseph Bellavia Fund was established when Wakefield native Staff Sgt. Joseph Bellavia was killed, along with two fellow MPs, on October 17th in an ambush in Kabala, Iraq. Bellavia served in the 716th Military Police Battalion, 101st Airborne Division based in Fort Campbell, KY. Bellavia was 28 years old and a 1994 graduate of Wakefield Memorial High School. This fund was established through the combined efforts of the Crystal Community Club’s Steve Roberto and Tony Longo, a resident of Fell Street and a neighbor of the Bellavia family. The money was raised through the club’s own donation, through donations from guests who attended a CCC Halloween Party and also through a number of generous donations made by local businesses. The Fell Street neighbors of the Bellavia Family also held a fundraiser for the scholarship.
