Bayrd Family Fund

This fund was initiated upon the death of Mr. Bayrd, long a prominent Wakefield resident. Owner of the teepee shaped Trading Post once located at the head of Lake Quannapowitt. Mr. Bayrd was active in Indian Affairs. He was half American Indian and lived as a monument to Native Americans. Both Mr. and Mrs. Bayrd loved music. Mr. Bayrd is fondly remembered as the leader of the former Red Man’s Band. The band appeared in full Indian dress each year at the 4th of July parade. He was 90 years old when he died in early 1990. His wife Ruth died in early 1991 at age 88. As other members of the Bayrd family passed away, memorial contributions have been added to the fund. The fund has a preference for someone enjoying music as an avocation.
