Paul K. Guillow, a naval aviator in World War I, was the founder of the world famous Guillow model airplane kits whose factory is here in Wakefield. The balsa wood kits are sold around the world each year selling approximately 4.5 million gliders and 200,000 kits. Mrs. Guillow died in 1986. She was a benefactor of the Melrose Wakefield Hospital contributing over a million dollars to their Centennial Fund. She was a Mayflower descendant, the last of her family. She served as President of the Wakefield Arts and Craft, the Historical Society, the E. E. Boit Home and the First Parish Congregational Church. She was well traveled and well known for her armchair travelogue.
