The Greenwood Union Church first started meeting in a room in the Greenwood School. As the congregation grew, the founders purchased land on Oak Street, and commissioned architects to design the church. The foundation was laid in November 1884, and the building was completed in February 1895. The new addition was built in 1960 and dedicated in 1961. The founders called the church “Union”. They believed if children could play together from different faiths, why could adults not worship together, and combine their beliefs. The church has closed its doors, a new name has replaced it, but the building remains standing as a house of worship.
